Move on your terms
Moving your body is one of the best things you can do for your heart, and it doesn't take a gym membership.
- Walk. A brisk 20–30 minute walk most days adds up. Prospect Park, the waterfront, or just around the block.
- Make it social. Walk with a neighbor, a friend, or your kids. You'll keep it up if it's a hangout.
- Take the stairs when you can. Get off the train a stop early.
- Sit down for chair exercises if standing is hard — moving while seated still counts.
You don't have to do it all at once. Three 10-minute walks are as good as one 30-minute one.
Start where you are. Something is always better than nothing.
General guidance. If you have a heart condition or haven't moved much lately, check with your doctor before starting.
This is education, not medical advice. Heart of the Block helps you learn and make everyday choices — it can’t diagnose, treat, or replace your doctor. Never start, stop, or change any medication based on what you see here. For anything about your health, talk to a licensed healthcare provider.
